Starting out

Beading, or making jewelry, can be a fun and simple craft project if you are prepared and have the right tools. It all depends on how well you want the end result to turn out. If you are looking to just pass the time with kids, then by all means break out the string and plastic beads. However, if you are looking to create professional looking, wearable pieces it’s best to make sure that you are doing things right.
Setting yourself up for success starts with the right tools. You are going to want to stock up on the basics at first. I recommend making a trip to your local big craft store. Bead boutiques are great for picking up specialty beads but might be over priced for the basics when starting out.
You are going to want to pick up some tiger tail beading wire and some metal findings. Tiger tail wire is basically a thin beading wire that is coated in plastic. This prevents it from kinking or rusting.
Jump Rings

Metal findings are essential in making a great looking and sturdy piece. Jump rings, crimp beads and clasps are essential.
The right tools are needed and can be acquired over time. Eventually you are going to want a good wire cutter, bead crimper and jewelry pliers.

Of course picking out the beads is the best part, just make sure to have plenty of seed beads, accent pieces and showcase beads to choose from.

Keeping it simple.

Choosing a larger "showcase" bead to display, a color theme and a simple pattern can make a bold statement. We all love funky jewelry from time to time, however it may not be for the everyday outfit. Choosing a neutral and accent color for a piece (white and green here) give it more versatility. This can be worn with a variety of colors and outfits.

Beading

Over the next few weeks I want to talk about beading. I have always enjoyed creating jewelry and would like to get back into it. Keep an eye out for new projects to come!

New shoes or a new lease on life?

My mother has been saving that special  (insert item here.. ring, sweater, shoes, etc.) for a special occasion all of my lifeI really don't know what she is waiting for... There are very few "special occasions" that are special enough for her to break out the good stuff.

Twinkle toes
I have always tried to give my mother nice things for her to enjoy. Partly because she really does deserve it and partly because I've often forgotten her "special occasion that never really comes" rule.

Needles to say, I never grew up wearing extravagant things in everyday life. Mind you, "extravagant" is a term I use very loosely. I mean anything that my mom would say "well, aren't you fancy?" if I put it on.

I tend to wear somewhat neutral clothing, I would never pay more then $100 for a bag and I get my shoes at payless.

Recently, I found these...

Of course, my first reaction was "ooooohhh" and then I wondered "just where I was going to wear these?"

Maybe it was the price ($17 bucks or so at Payless) or that my inner racoons was attracted to the bright shiny object. Whatever it was, I decided I'm going to wear them. With jeans. At school. Wherever I want.

From now on, the special occasion is life, and I'm going to sparkle for it and not feel bad about it.

EDIT: Okay, I admit that was a little cheesy. But you get my drift.

Well, Hello!

I don't pretend to be an expert on anything. So...now that we got that out of the way, welcome!

This blog is about all things that sparkle, mixed with some artsy-craftsy type things (I love to bead and be creative...when I can.) Mostly though it is about finding the inner beauty and believing in.....Ooooh look glitter!

Anyways, I hope you like bright shiny objects as much as I do. teehee

Some girls are just born with glitter in their veins.
